More than keys. A complete handover.
A practical Lahore homeowner guide to room checks, open items, completion paperwork and the records to keep.
Same foundations.
A brighter tomorrow.

01 / Start with a handover file, not just the keys
Before accepting the handover of a Lahore home, walk through the agreed work room by room, request demonstrations and relevant test records, record unfinished items, and collect the drawings, manuals and keys. Check the completion-paperwork route for your particular plot with the responsible authority or society. Keep a written list of what is complete, what remains open and who will follow up.
Handover is a useful point to bring the construction record together. It should connect the agreed scope with the home you can see and the systems you will use. This homeowner checklist helps organise that conversation; it does not certify structural, electrical or other technical safety. Arrange the professional inspections appropriate to your project.
02 / Agree what the visit is meant to establish
Ask the project team for the latest drawings, specification, approved changes and a proposed list of handover documents before the visit. Use these to identify the rooms, fittings and external works included in the contract. Note owner-supplied items and any separately appointed contractors so responsibilities are clear.
Plan the walkthrough with the people who can explain the work and record decisions. Allow access to each included area, adequate lighting and demonstrations of available systems. If a service is not connected or a room is inaccessible, record the limitation and arrange a later check. Do not mark an untested item as passed simply to finish the list.
Use separate headings for visible condition, operation, technical records and documents. A freshly painted room can look complete while a required document or a functioning fitting is still missing. Keeping these headings separate makes the remaining work easier to assign.
03 / Walk through the home in a repeatable order
Choose a route and follow it consistently: approach and entrance, one floor at a time, then the included external areas. In each room, compare the visible work with the agreed schedule. Ask the team to identify any approved substitutions rather than relying on memory.
- Check visible finishes for damage, incomplete areas and items needing review.
- Operate accessible doors, windows, locks and cabinet hardware with the team.
- Compare supplied fittings and accessories with the agreed product schedule.
- Note missing covers, labels, handles or other unfinished details.
- Record visible damp marks, leaks or cracks for assessment by the responsible professional.
Describe observations without guessing their cause. A mark on a ceiling is something to investigate, not proof of a particular waterproofing failure. Avoid dismantling equipment, opening electrical panels or entering unsafe roof areas to complete a checklist. Refer questions requiring technical judgement to the appropriate specialist.
Inspect selected finishes in ordinary usable lighting and agree how disputed workmanship will be assessed against the contract, approved samples and applicable requirements. Photographs help locate a concern; they do not replace an on-site assessment of it.
04 / Ask for demonstrations and the supporting records
Have the responsible team demonstrate the agreed functions of lighting controls, water fittings, pumps, installed equipment and other included systems. Ask where relevant isolation controls are located and who should be contacted if a fault occurs. Keep operating instructions with the exact product model and supplier details.
Request the inspection, commissioning and testing records applicable to the scope. Have the appropriate qualified person explain what was checked, when it was checked and any limitations. Watching a tap run or a light switch on is not a substitute for the technical verification required for that installation.
NHBC's UK moving-in guidance offers a new-home checklist and recommends checking the home before completing a purchase and again when moving in. That supports a useful general habit of making time for a documented review; its UK warranty arrangements and consumer rules do not automatically apply to a Lahore construction contract.
05 / Give every open item a clear next action
Keep one numbered snag list instead of scattering requests across phone calls. Use a room and location reference, a short description, a photograph where useful, the person responsible for the next action and a target review date. Distinguish a reported concern from an agreed correction and from an item that has been rechecked.
For example, a hypothetical entry could read: bedroom two, wardrobe left door, catches during opening; joinery contractor to assess and adjust; reviewer to operate it again before closure. This is an example of a useful record, not a completed ELEV8CONCEPTS project.
Suggested status labels are open, awaiting response, correction reported and rechecked. The person doing the work can report completion, while the nominated reviewer records the subsequent check. Keep the original observation and later response together rather than deleting the history.
Separate urgent safety or usability concerns from cosmetic questions. Let a qualified person determine the appropriate response to a suspected technical problem. Record any restriction on use, further investigation or follow-up visit in clear language.
06 / Check the Lahore completion-paperwork route
Identify the authority or society responsible for your plot and ask your architect or appointed representative which completion documents and inspections apply. Do not assume one Lahore-wide process, or treat a contractor's handover note as an authority-issued certificate.
For a DHA Lahore property, the official Building Control page provides a completion-certificate procedure. It refers to approved drawings, elevation photographs and relevant payment or connection records, and says deviations should be addressed through revised drawings before applying. It also describes an authority inspection. Check the current requirements directly for your property; this article does not promise a fee or processing time.

Maintain a document register showing received, pending and not applicable, with a named person following up each outstanding item. Keep applications and receipts distinct from the final issued document. For an overseas owner, confirm who is authorised to act and receive documents through the applicable official process.
07 / Collect a usable handover pack
Ask for a labelled folder that someone unfamiliar with the project can navigate. Useful groups to agree with the team include:
- Final drawings and the record of approved changes, identifying what each drawing represents.
- Relevant inspection, testing and commissioning records.
- Product schedules, manuals, invoices and warranty documents.
- Supplier, installer and aftercare contact details.
- Authority or society documents and the outstanding-document register.
- Key, remote and access-card inventory.
- Spare materials, finish references and their storage locations.
Retain physical originals where required and readable digital copies for convenient access. Share only what each recipient needs; identity documents, access codes and private financial records should not sit in a public progress link.
Keep tile product and spare-stock records useful after installation
08 / Reconcile the account and agree follow-up
Ask for a clear account of the agreed scope, approved changes, payments and unresolved items. Have the relevant professional review any disputed amount or contractual question. Payment timing, retention and defect responsibilities come from the actual agreement; this checklist does not invent a standard warranty period or recommend withholding money outside the contract.
Record the handover date, documents received, demonstrations completed, limitations and remaining actions. Ask how to report a later issue, what information to include and who will respond. Arrange the agreed reinspection rather than treating a promise to return as evidence that an item is closed.
If you are managing the project from overseas, nominate a local representative for the walkthrough and receive the same indexed record. A video call can help you ask questions, while technical inspection still needs the appropriate people on site. Share your Lahore project stage and available records with ELEV8CONCEPTS to discuss the construction or coordination support relevant to your brief.

Four checks before handover.
Clear records help you follow decisions, review progress and keep the details that matter.
- Room walk — review agreed finishes, fittings and visible condition.
- Working systems — arrange demonstrations and relevant test records.
- Open items — record the next action, responsible person and recheck.
- Handover pack — collect drawings, manuals, documents and keys.
Common questions.
What should I check before a house handover in Lahore?
Review the agreed work room by room, request system demonstrations and relevant technical records, record open items, and collect documents and keys. Confirm the completion requirements with the authority or society responsible for your plot.
Is a snag list the same as a completion certificate?
No. A snag list records concerns or unfinished work and their follow-up. An authority-issued completion certificate is a separate document obtained through the applicable process. Confirm which documents your property needs.
What belongs in a useful snag record?
Include an item number, room and location, factual description, photograph where helpful, responsible person, next action and review date. Keep the response and recheck result with the original record.
How can an overseas owner manage the handover?
Nominate a local representative, agree who performs the necessary professional inspections, and keep one indexed handover pack. A video walkthrough can support communication, but it does not replace on-site technical checks or the applicable official document process.
